Westminster Labour has opposed plans for a coach station at the former railway sidings at Royal Oak. The lease on Victoria Coach Station is expires in 2023 and Transport for London is said to be considering Royal Oak as part of the relocation of coach services to a number of sites around London.
Karen Buck MP and Councillor Adam Hug, Leader of the Labour Group on Westminster Council, have written to Deputy Mayor Heidi Alexander stressing that the Royal Oak site is totally unsuitable as a Coach Station. It would pose a significant threat to the residential areas of Bayswater, Westbourne and Paddington bringing more air pollution and further congestion on our already crowded local roads, bus and underground services.
Labour Councillor for Bayswater Maggie Carman said: “TFL must look elsewhere if it wants to build an alternative to Victoria Coach Station. It would cause massive traffic problems in our area, put greater pressure on local bus routes and disrupt local communities in Bayswater and around Westbourne Green.”
